Such an exciting small world...

076792522x01lzzzzzzz

So, I wanted to do some spring reading and of course I wanted to read about France. I have read "a year in provence" but it was 10 years ago, so I figured I'd read it again. I went to Amazon.com and looked it up, Amazon.com also gave me some recommendations based on my "a year in provence" order...one of them was "French by Heart", by Rebecca Ramsey. It sounded really good, so I ordered it. The books came last week and I started on "A year in provence" and Bruce started with "french by heart". He said it was really good. Today I was looking at my comments and noticed a new one from a blog called Wonders Never Cease, so I went to that blog and started to read the latest post. I was about a backyard garden (not in the ground but above ground) thanks to their golden retriever tanner. Tanner looked so much like Dashell, it was scary....but many goldens look alike. I then read a bit further down and it said "when we lived in france"....so I went back to the bio and who is this blog by.....Rebecca Ramsey....yes, yes..the women who wrote "France by Heart", the book that is on my husband's nightstand right now.

I had to email Rebecca and tell her what a small world it is. Go and get her book, it's a really good read, even if you are not moving to france like us....you'll still get a feel of what it would be like. Thanks for visiting Rebecca, your book is making us so excited for our sabbatical in france!

Comments

Rebecca has just left some comments on my website -- I'll have to read her book if you say it's good. I don't always like the "wonderful and quirky experience in France" books, but some of them are really good. There's another one I loved called "From Here You Can't See Paris."

You are so sweet to recommend French By Heart! Thank you!

You're going to love living in France. I can say that for my family, it really changed our lives.
I'm excited for you and look forward to hearing about your adventures!

I've seen this book off and on in my research and reading. I'll have to pick it up! Although, I am pooped out on "yeah, france" books like Betty. Books with history and information put in are always a treat - like, "from paris to the moon". Also, if you like history I suggest "the seven ages of paris," however it's more academic reading.

Betty - I'll have to get "from here you can't see paris"...since we don't leave until end of September I need to keep going by reading other experiences, only 21 more weeks but who's counting

Rebecca - thanks for stopping by. There is nothing better than an experience that changes your life, otherwise how boring would it be.

Colleen - welcome back to the states...sorry you had to return so soon, but I'm sure Holly is happy. Can't do academic reading right now, too serious...need easy reads. I'll have to check out "from paris to the moom" too. The ony "yeah france" book that I have read is "A year in Provence".

What a lovely synchronicity!

And like Colleen, I really liked "Paris to the Moon." Gopnik is a great writer who has written a lovely and not overly romantic look at Paris. It certainly is one of my favorite books about living in Paris. I am not a lover of "A year in Provence." Actually, I could not get myself to read it.

B - i picked up "A year in provence" to re-read it, get myself psyched for our move. Plus 2 years ago we spent 2 weeks in Loumarin (in provence) where Peter Mayle lived. But I'm with you...it's not that great. I'm pushing myself through it, slowly, at night. I'm going to get "Paris to the Moon".

What a great surprise! I've always dreamed of being that kind of writer... one who connects with her readers on a truly personal level! I'll have to get this book. Like LBR, I wasn't that enamored with "A Year in Provence" and as Betty said, some of those "wonderful and quirky experience in France" just irritate me more than inspire me. As someone very interested in the possibility of living in France, it is great to hear about books that inspire others also pursuing a life in France! And while we are recommending books... I LOVE "The Gastronomical Me" by MFK Fisher. I haven't read it in years (much like your experience) but that book left such an impression upon me and your post has encouraged me to reread it sooner than later. So many great books to read!!

Thanks for including me in your blogroll, by the way. I look forward to reading more of your blog and preparations for France!!
